ADTF: ARXML support at top speed
Since version 3.5.0 of the ADTF Device Toolbox, an integrated ARXML support is delivered in addition to the familiar bus data processing. With this in-house development, digitalwerk enables its customers to load ARXML databases, which are being used more and more frequently, and thus to read out several different types of vehicle networking information. The reading and analysis takes place at top speed.
The database formats used so far, such as Fibex “XML” or “DBC”, are now extended by digitalwerk’s newly developed ADTF ARXML Toolbox. Thus digitalwerk follows the automotive standard of AUTOSAR. ARXML files are able to contain many different bus systems (CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, etc.).
For loading the ARXML files, digitalwerk uses a high-speed solution: the AUTOSAR Parser Engine from IP Camp in Budapest. The ADTF ARXML Toolbox developed by digitalwerk communicates with the AUTOSAR Parser Engine, which checks the ARXML files for their internal structure and consistency and loads the vehicle network structure. The AUTOSAR Parser supports the loading of one or more ARXML files. Furthermore, “zip” files are also supported, which can contain several ARXML files.
The advantages for the customer are obvious: Thanks to IP Camp’s AUTOSAR Parser Engine, the databases can be read out in a matter of seconds. For the ADTF user, everything is reduced to a single, common description of the vehicle networking data. It is also possible to split the vehicle data into several ARXML files. The ADTF ARXML Toolbox, the interface between ADTF and the database, is by no means obligatory. It is licensed separately but is integrated in the ADTF Device Toolbox and can thus be used as a convenient all-in-one solution. Customers also have the option of creating their own Parser Service for bus databases. The necessary API is included in the installation package of the ADTF Device Toolbox.
“We clearly focused on performance in the development of the ADTF ARXML Toolbox,” explains Johannes Bauer, authorized officer at digitalwerk. “The top priority for us was that the runtime of ADTF is not affected at all by reading out the ARXML databases.” True to the motto: Performance is Key! With the help of the AUTOSAR Parser Engine, the Bus Parser Services store all relevant vehicle networking data already in the initialization phase. This ensures that no information can be reloaded during runtime and any interference can be avoided.
